About Me

Hey there! My name is Nicholas Rui, and I am a third-year physics and astrophysics student at the University of California, Berkeley. I am affiliated with the Lu group (astrophysics) in the Department of Astronomy and have worked on:

  • Producing an extended Quintuplet proper motion membership catalog spanning a field of view 19 times greater than previous studies
  • Characterizing the Quintuplet cluster’s dynamical structure (assessing the possibility of mass segregation, tidal truncation, tidal tails, etc.) and bulk motion
  • Examining fast-moving stars in the Quintuplet foreground

I am also affiliated with the Yao group (AMO physics) in the Department of Physics and have worked on:

  • A MATLAB code and UI to perform second-order autocorrelation measurements in order to confirm single defects (NV centers and quantum emitters in hBN)
  • Optimal control laser pulse shaping
